10 reasons to FALL in love with FALL in Toronto

The past few months have been so 'heavy' in the sense that everything has revolved around Covid. I figured it's time for some escapism, because why not? So this post will NOT mention the virus.

Ok, maybe just once.

Where I come from there are two seasons: Summer and Winter. I grew up either walking around wearing short sleeves or short sleeves covered by what they refer to in Israel as "a winter coat", or as they call it here in Canada, "a light jacket" haha.

The lowest average temperature in Israel, on really cold days, is 10 degrees, and I think I wrote enough about the cold winter in Canada and how I got used to it, but nothing prepared me for the beauty of life in a country with 4 seasons, the most beautiful of which being Fall (Autumn).

It always seemed so pretty and special in movies, but then again, what doesn't? Similar to Christmas, I thought it had this effect due to the talented people behind the screen, but I was wrong. So wrong!

It is a rare beauty.

There’s for sure a Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer in Toronto, but I swear to God sometimes it’s really warm one day then overnight the leaves change, fall to the ground, and immediately get covered by snow. Everything is changing so quickly that you have to appreciate its beauty as you don’t know how long it will last.

Fall is everything you think it is, and more. The colors, the atmosphere, the smells, they all exist, and you can't help but FALLing in love with it (while realizing you're a walking cliche).

Here's are the main 10 reasons I fell in love with Fall in Toronto:

  1. Fall Foliage It's hard to describe in words the beauty of green slowly giving way to reds, oranges, and yellows. The colors in some of the pictures I take during fall almost seem unreal when I look at them after, and it's this kind of beauty that I'm amazed by every year.

  2. The food There isn't a better excuse for comfort food than a cold rainy day, and by comfort food, I also mean Halloween candies!

  3. Apples, pumpkins, and seasonal produce Not only these are things to add to your grocery list, but also a great opportunity for outdoor activities with the kids. Before moving to sledding and making snow angels, we make time for Apple picking and Pumpkin Carving.

  4. Pumpkin spice everything (my Blog included) It's in everything during the fall: Lattes, pies, tea. Really the only reason not to enjoy it is if you're allergic :)

  5. Sweater weather Cozy socks, cozy sweaters, gloves... cozy everything! You just want to stay home and drink hot tea under a cozy blanket. Now thanks to Covid, I actually can.

  6. The crunchy sound of leaves underfoot I feel like a 5y/o every time I walk outside during fall. Is there anything better than crunching your way through dry, fallen leaves?

  7. No more bugs Isn’t it nice to sit outside without hearing a constant buzz or covering yourself in bug spray?

  8. Halloween No fall list would be complete without the biggest of all holidays - Halloween! We might be Jewish and have our own Halloween (Purim), but one can never have too many reasons to dress up as something silly and enjoy more candy.

  9. The spirit of change is in the air Fall is all about change. Though New Year took the credit for being a time for a change, most changes actually take place around Fall. The season is changing, the weather is changing, our clothes are changing from summery short sleeves to cozy long ones, it is all around. The Jewish New Year (Rosh HaShana) actually falls very close to the beginning of Fall, and as someone who's used to the idea that things would be new around Rosh HaShana, it works out perfectly for me!

  10. Fall also gets a bonus point for providing us with the most Instagramable backgrounds #FallinToronto. Go Fall!

Not literally though, cause then it means it's Winter.
